Once again, four years in-a-row, Squadron 50 has been honored to receive the Quality Cadet Unit Award for 2016.
Any cadet unit that displays strong program fundamentals can earn the Quality Cadet Unit Award. This award motivates squadrons to pursue goals that will inevitably lead to their having a vibrant Cadet Program.
Sixteen members of Squadron 50 spent the night aboard the World War II aircraft carrier USS Hornet. Members performed community service by helping keep the ship safe and sanitary. They slept in original crew quarters, ate meals in the crew’s mess hall, received private tours, and even heard ghost stories told by members of her crew.
Twenty members of Squadron 50 toured the Hiller Aviation Museum in San Bruno, CA. Cadets received private tours, attended a demonstration by “The Paper Airplane Guy”, learned how to create a flight plan and then flew their flight plan in the flight simulator zone. Squadron 50 will once again be hosting the annual USS Hornet Overnight on August 6th. Participants will live aboard the historic World War II aircraft carrier, sleeping in original crew quarters, eating in the mess hall, taking private guided tours, exploring the ship on our own, listening to ghost stories about the ship,
